Today I’ll share a recipe that I have learned to enjoy when I was living in Verona. It’s a very healthy and tasty dish that’s very easy to prepare.
Venetian Style Liver
Liver is very good for you. It is the best source of Vitamin A and contains some of the most essential vitamins and minerals to keep you strong, healthy and smart too. It has Vitamin A, D, B12, copper, etc. Even experts say that it is the most powerful superfood!
Ancient Romans used to cook it with figs just to cover the smell, you know at that time didn’t exist fridges 🙂
This recipe is fast, tastes good and very healthy – even kids will love it!
Ingredients
2 large onions
4oo gr of liver (I have used Organic beef and Organic Pork)
2 bay leaves, broken in 2 or 3 pieces
20 gr of butter
20 ml of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
10 ml of White Balsamic Vinegar
Salt and Pepper
Procedure
Start chopping the onions in thin slices.
Heat up the oil and butter.
When the butter is completely melted, add the onions to it. Add the bay leaves. Turn the stove to medium and continue stirring the onions until they become soft but not brown. This will take 10/12 minutes.
Just before adding the liver, give it a drizzle of white balsamic vinegar. If you don’t have it, you can use white vinegar.
Add the liver on top and stir for 5 to 8 minutes.
Don’t overcook because it can get tough and difficult to chew.
Serve immediately with lemon or any of your favourite vegetables.
Tip: You can pass the liver in flour before cooking. This will help in cooking them faster and give you soft and delicious liver.
