It is\u00a0distinguished by its characteristic spiral shape. The dough is usually made just with durum wheat, water and salt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/fusillo-e1474553392788.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3623\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3623\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/fusillo-e1474553392788-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"fusillo\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Making homemade fusilli<\/h2>\n<p>The artesian\u00a0that use to make homemade fusilli\u00a0were called <strong>&#8220;Maestre Fusillaie&#8221;<\/strong>, which means &#8220;Fusilli-maker Professors&#8221;, were admired it required years of experience to learn the hand-making secrets to\u00a0shape this pasta.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional technique has been passed down through the generations. It consists in\u00a0rapidly twirling a short snake of dough around a knitting needle or a spindle. Here, the<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/fusilloni\/\">fusilli<\/a> <\/strong>are still hand-made, twisting them around an iron spindle and drying them under the sun. This same technique is used for other shapes of pasta like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/trofie\/\">trofie<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/wholemeal-strozzapreti\/\">strozzapreti<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>What sauce should I use?<\/h2>\n<p>Due to the spiral shape, fusilli is\u00a0perfect for all kinds\u00a0of sauces, both simple and elaborate.
