Italian Republic Day, 2nd of June"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Italian Republic Day, 2nd of June<\/h1>\n<h3>A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY<\/h3>\n<p>June 2nd, 1946, was the day Italians voted to abolish the monarchy, and the Republic of Italy was born; hence Republic Day<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1946-giugno-Corriere-Repubblica-a.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5240\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/1946-giugno-Corriere-Repubblica-a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This date is very important for a further reason, since it saw the very first democratic vote of the Italian population, involving also the women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/suffragio-universale.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5244\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/suffragio-universale.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The public vote called the folk to decide between the monarchy and the republic, after the ending of the Second World War and the fall of the Fascist dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/caduta-fascismo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5243\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/caduta-fascismo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Republic won with around 13 million votes, against to 10 million for the monarchy. The official results of the referendum were published on the 18th of June, but the celebration of this important event was set on the date of the public vote, to underline the concepts of equality and freedom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/image_gallery-300x211.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5242\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/image_gallery-300x211-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/image_gallery-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/image_gallery-300x211-78x55.jpg 78w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the referendum, the King Umberto II of Savoy decided to abdicate and to move to Portugal, to avoid the civil fights between the two parties to spread throughout the whole Italy. In fact, during the major economic crisis of Italy, between the second half of the 70s and 2000, it was changed to the first Sunday of June, so that Italians would not loose a working day.<\/p>\n<h3>THE OFFICIAL CEREMONY<\/h3>\n<p>The official ceremony entails the flag-raising ceremony and the Republic President to place\u00a0a laurel leaves crown on the Altare Della Patria (a monumental altar), which is located in Venezia Square in Rome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/milite-ignoto.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5247\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/milite-ignoto.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, a military parade passes through the capital, visiting the main important historical sites, such as the Fori Imperiali and the Colosseum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/parata.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5248\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/parata.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"159\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many organisations, both local and international, take part in the parade, like the ONU, the NATO and the European Union Committee representatives. Nevertheless, the military parade didn&#8217;t take place in 1976 as a consequence\u00a0of the terrible earthquake that deeply affected the region of Friuli. The parade was suspended to send all helping bodies to that area and guarantee to support the local population.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/terremoto.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5250\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/terremoto.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the most stunning events in the Bank Holiday programme is the Air Show, in which the &#8220;Frecce Tricolore&#8221; provides an amazing display of acrobatic figures in the air. &#8220;Frecce Tricolore&#8221; means &#8220;Tricolour Arrows&#8221;, which is the national acrobatic squad of the Italian Aircraft Military Force.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb tright\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/frecce.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5249\" src=\"http:\/\/cookwithgusto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/frecce.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The ceremony ends up with musical performances.
