They were of all shapes and colors, and perfect for this week&#8217;s recipe: stuffed peppers &#8220;alla poverella\u201d . You can prepare them in just 10 minutes, then pop them in the oven and wait for them to bake.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the name of this dish, which translates roughly as &#8220;poor women&#8217;s peppers&#8221; and suggests a very simple dish, their taste is really gratifying. They are prepared with \u201cwhatever is in the kitchen&#8221; &#8211; stale bread, chopped tomatoes, capers, olives, an egg, and a handful of tasty grated cheese.<br \/>\nDuring cooking, the stale bread absorbs the tomato sauce and takes an almost fleshy consistency inside. At the same time, a crunchy crust forms on top. The result\u00a0is two deliciously complimentary textures.<\/p>\n<p>This dish is quite versatile. You can add spicy sauces, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/cannonata\/\">&#8220;Cannonata&#8221;<\/a>, or others such as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/artichokes-pate\/\">Artichoke Pat\u00e9<\/a>&#8220;, or &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/asparagus-pate-large\/\">Asparagus Pat\u00e9<\/a> &#8220;. In these cases, you can also add stringy cheeses, like mozzarella.<\/p>\n<p>Stuffed peppers &#8220;alla poverella\u201d are a great dish because they help to avoid wasting food. Also,\u00a0they are healthy thanks to the high vitamin C\u00a0 content of the peppers.<\/p>\n<h4>Ingredients<\/h4>\n<p>large red peppers, 4<\/p>\n<p>chopped tomatoes, 200 gm. (or other<a href=\"https:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/country-basil-sauce\/\"> tomato sauce<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>capers, 1 tablespoon<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tastewithgusto.ie\/shop\/messinese-nocellara-termite-olives\/\">green olives,<\/a> 10 or 12<\/p>\n<p>stale bread chopped, 1 cup<\/p>\n<p>egg, 1<\/p>\n<p>grated Parmigiano cheese, 40 gm.
